Get Ready for Trout Season

Temperatures have far exceeded our annual average throughout March 2016, creating an early spring thaw on the Susquehanna River, its tributaries and lesser bodies. With our spring thaw more than underway, it is time to start thinking about Trout Season in Central PA!

Meat Grinders

We sell butcher supplies near Williamsport, and one of our most popular items are meat grinders. There are several different types and the kind you get will depend on how often you butcher and how much you butcher at one time. Here is a brief rundown of the most common types of meat grinders and their advantages.

Manual

Manual meat grinders are those that are used without electricity, and they're best for those who are not going to be butchering that often. They are usually fairly easy to use. Materials they are made out of vary, so it's best to do further research to figure out which one would be best for you.

Standalone

Standalone meat grinders are electric, but they're great for those who butcher fairly often. You can get a variety of grinder plates for these types of grinders, so those who are interested in butchering a variety of meats should look into purchasing a standalone grinder.

Attachments

Depending on the meat grinder, you could have several options when it comes to grinder plates and more. If you're unsure of what you need for your butchering needs and what other butcher supplies you might need, we'll be happy to assist you in any way we can. We'll answer your questions and do our best to guide you in the right direction.

Budget

We also wanted to mention that you should have a budget in mind for your butcher supplies. The amount depends on you and your own personal finances, and it'll also depend on how often you want to butcher. We can work with you to stay within your budget when you buy your butcher supplies from us.

Other accessories

There's more to butchering and butcher supplies than just the meat grinders and grinder plates. You should consider seasonings, especially those made for sausages and other treats like that. Again, we can help you get the spices and seasonings you need, and we will be happy to answer any questions you have about the other butcher supplies we carry at our general store.

If you would like more information on how to get butcher supplies near Williamsport, call Hilsher's General Store at 570-374-1550, visit us on Routes 11/15 seven miles south of Selinsgrove or you can Contact Us.

How to Pick the Best Work Boots

When you are thinking about buying new work boots near Port Trevorton, you might think all work boots are the same. Why should you put any more thought into them besides maybe the color or brand? But not all work boots are exactly alike, so there are a few other things you should keep in mind when making your selection.

For example, what kind of work are you going to do in them? If you are on a construction site, you will probably want a pair that has a very thick sole. This is to help ensure that, if you step on a nail or another sharp object, it will not penetrate the boot and potentially stab the bottom of your foot and cause a variety of problems.

Steel toe work boots are a popular choice in a variety of industries: from construction to farming and just about anything in between. Not only does steel conduct heat very well, which is great for the times that you are working outdoors in cold temperatures, but it also helps protect your toes from accidents, like if a heavy tool is accidentally dropped on your foot.

You should also be sure to try on your work boots before you buy them. You want to be sure that they fit properly, especially if you are on your feet and working most of your day. The last thing you want are foot problems like blisters or anything like that. They can make it particularly painful to work, and that can definitely make your work day more unpleasant than it should be!

Finally, keep the weather in mind too. If you get a lot of rain where you work or live, then you probably want boots that are waterproof to ensure your feet stay nice and dry even during torrential downpours. And you probably want to choose a work boot that is made out of rubber or waterproof leather so you know that your new work boots will last you for as long as possible.

You should come to our store to see the work boots that we have in stock. We will be happy to answer your questions and help you choose the right pair for your needs.
